  • Oklahoma School District Changing to Four-Day Week

    CEMENT, OK. - It was the first day of school in Cement on Wednesday. A brand new school year is ushering in a brand new schedule. “The big excitement here at Cement School is the fact that we’re going to a four-day school week,” said Danny Pittman, the district superintendent.
    Pittman says the main reason for the decision is their difficulty finding teachers.

    “Going a whole summer, looking for somebody with no applicants turning in an application.  And we are calling colleges, calling schools,” said Pittman.  “The last several years, a day before school, we didn’t know if we were going to have to start going to computer-based instruction or somebody unqualified to teach.”

  • Cement Public Schools 4 Day School Week Should Be Success

    Oklahoma is not known for being overly friendly to teachers. It falls near the bottom of average teacher salary and starting teaching salary in our country, so drawing potential educators to the Sooner state has proven difficult. 

    Cement Public Schools is taking a new approach to keeping its faculty and we couldn't be happier. 

    The small district will go to a four day-a-week school schedule this year, giving students and faculty alike an extra day of rest. 

    They will do this by adding 10 minutes a day the reaminder of the week, and go a week longer at the end of school
